Methow Trails invites everyone to come out for a day of FREE winter trail access. Try cross country skiing, snowshoeing, or fatbiking for the first time or introduce a friend to the experience you love!
All Methow Trails are open this day for free cross-country skiing, free fat bike access on the fat bike trails, free snowshoeing on the snowshoe trails and free dog access on the dog trails!
Get out your costume box…..This race is all about the costume, and a dose of good luck out on the course. Human-dog teams compete in short heats to go for the glory of the coveted Golden Poodle award.
Humans must ski. Dogs must run. Dogs must be on a leash. Both must be in costume. it’s that simple.
Cost: By donation, all supporting dog trail maintenance on Methow Trails.
Registration: Please PRE-REGISTER HERE. If you did not pre-register, you are welcome to register in-person on the day of the event. You must check-in at 9:00 am
Location: Spring Creek Ranch loop (by the Ice Rink). Please park above the ice rink and walk down the stairs. ADA parking is available in the lower lot.

The skies over Winthrop brighten with the brilliant colors of over a dozen hot air balloons. This 3-day Balloon Roundup is a photographer’s dream. An incredible visual display as the balloons fly over the old western town of Winthrop and with the snow-capped mountains of the North Cascades.
While many balloon festivals are held in the summertime, the Winthrop Balloon Roundup allows visitors to experience the Methow Valley’s world-class winter recreational pursuits of Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, snowmobiling and sledding. Winthrop has activities for the whole family as well as large variety of food and lodging options.
2022 Sunflower Trail Marathon, 1/2 Marathon & Relay (methowtrails.org)
This unique course begins at 2180 feet elevation in Mazama and includes well marked deer trails, single track trails, and gravel roads. Stunning views of the Methow River, North Cascades and Chelan Sawtooths abound from flower carpeted meadows and fields. At two points, racers climb to 2600 feet. The finish is at about 1600 feet in Twisp. This course traverses private property that owners generously allow use for this one-day only. Please do not pre-run the course prior to or after the event. Because of the presence of livestock, no dogs at start or finish lines, or on the course please.
The Marathon course is a marathon-plus length at 26.8 miles. Expect breathtaking scenery and some sustained climbs and descents. Elevation +2,520/-2,350.

Winthrop Washington’s ’49er Days is an old west heritage festival of our rich western and horse history. The event kicks off with the annual Ride the Rendezvous, a week-long horse packing excursion through the Methow Valley high country which ends Mother’s Day weekend. (Contact woga.org to join in this event). As the horse-train enters Winthrop on the final day, the community comes out to celebrate its arrival back home. If you can’t attend, the parade will stream live on our Facebook page.
On Saturday, Winthrop celebrates its rich Western history with a grand parade including the largest representation by horses of any parade in Washington State. Saturday is full of activities for the kids, the cowboys and the cowgirls. Learn more about the history of the event here.

2022 Cutthroat Classic (methowtrails.org)
The mountain course begins at Rainy Pass on the North Cascades Scenic Highway, elevation 4,870 feet. The route follows the Pacific Crest Trail north on a steady, gradual 5 mile climb to Cutthroat Pass, elevation 6,835 feet. Runners then descend 4 miles to Cutthroat Lake (many switchbacks on a 5-10% grade). The course continues gradually downhill for 2 more miles to the Cutthroat Creek Trailhead, elevation 4,480 feet. Total course length is 10.6 miles.
